Applying online
Any foreign national who will be visiting Sri Lanka for a short period is required to apply ETA and ensure pre-approval before the journey to avoid unnecessary delays at the port of entry and adhere with enhanced pre clearance.
An intended traveller from any other country than the ones mentioned above, planning a holiday visit, transit through, needs to apply and obtain visa (ETA) prior to arrival in Sri Lanka by logging www.eta.gov.lk
The types of ETA:
A visitor wishing to stay more than 30 days in Sri Lanka may apply for an extension. The short term visit visa may be extended up to 90 days from the date of arrival at the first instance and further 90 days at the second instance.
Application for an extension should be submitted to the Visa Section of the Department of Immigration (head office), Colombo, by visiting the Department or through an Authorized Agent.
Those who are not in a position to apply on-line or unable to submit applications online may submit applications to this Embassy so that the Embassy could process their request in consultation with the Department of Immigration & Emigration on behalf of the applicant. Visa shall be delivered within 3 (three) working days if submitted application is complete.

Those who are not in a position to apply online, through Sri Lanka diplomatic Missions or travelling on an emergency, could apply at a special counter at the airport.
