Ambassador M Rizvi Hassen met Mr. Abdullah Eren, President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities who also oversee providing Turkish scholarships programme (Turkiye Scholarship Burslari) for foreign students to study in Turkish Universities and higher educational institutes in Turkey at his office in Ankara on 16th June. The meeting was focused on increasing scholarships offered by Turkey for Sri Lankan students, welfare of the students currently studying at Turkish Universities and higher educational institutes in Turkey and to establish a mechanism to increase awareness on benefits of Turkish scholarship among Sri Lankan students.

Turkish scholarships programme is a government funded competitive programme awarded to outstanding students and researchers from around the world to pursue full time or short term programmes at top universities in Turkey. Currently over 16,000 students from 100 countries are offered the scholarship and studying in universities in Turkey.  5,000 new scholarships will be awarded every year for selected students. Currently 17 students from Sri Lanka are benefitted by the Turkish scholarships.
