The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ankara, Turkey organized information sharing webinar and business networking session on spice sector in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board & “Turkey- Sri Lanka Business Council” on 16 th December 2020. The aim of the webinar was to share information on the uniqueness of the Ceylon spices specially “Ceylon Cinnamon” & increase the exports from Sri Lanka to Turkish market and also to connect potential Turkish importers, traders with the Sri Lankan exporters.

Ambassador M. Rizvi Hassen, Mr. Mahmut Uluer, Member of “Turkey- Sri Lanka Business Council”, Ms. Malani Baddegamage, Director, Sri Lanka Export Development Board made remarks & informative presentation highlighting the strengths of Sri Lanka in this sector were shared with the participants to experience the uniqueness of Ceylon Spices. More than 17 Turkish interested importers including Mr. Mustafa Aydın Acun, Chairman of Turkish Spice Packagers Association (Ambalajlı Baharat Üreticileri Derneği), Mr. Anibal Atilla Rua, Deputy Chairman, Mr. Emin Demirci, Deputy Chairman  & Ms. Ayşegül Keskin Aydın, General Secretary  joined the session.

During the virtual meeting Ambassador Rizvi Hassen, while giving brief overview of the available untouched potentials, invited Turkish importers to explore the varieties of Sri Lankan spice products especially “Ceylon Cinnamon”.

Mr. Mahmut Uluer, Member of “Turkey - Sri Lanka Business Council”, Hon. Consul of Sri Lanka to Nevsehir and the Chairman of Lanka Balloning (Pvt) Ltd joining the session shared his experience with Sri Lanka and briefed on the uniqueness of the Ceylon spices.

Mr. Mustafa Aydın Acun, Chairman of Turkish Spice Packagers Association (Ambalajlı Baharat Üreticileri Derneği) speaks during the session and shown their keen interest to work together with Sri Lankan companies and also Sri Lankan associations to expand trade between two countries. Detailed presentations on Ceylon spices were made by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Sri Lankan industry representatives namely Mr.Nanada Kohona, Director, International Commodity Traders /Silvermills Group (Pvt) Ltd, Mr.Gehan De Silva, Director, HDDES Extracts (Pvt) Ltd, Mr.Rumesh Jayasuriya, Director Business Development,Imperial Spices (Pvt) Ltd during the virtual meeting.

 

The Embassy and Sri Lanka Export Development Board is currently coordinating individual B2B meeting between Sri Lankan and Turkish companies starting from next week.
