“Continuing high level exchanges and regular people to people contacts between Turkey and Sri Lanka is the way forward for binding relations between the two brotherly nations and enhance economic activities” said the Ambassador M.R. Hassen during his remarks at the “Sri Lanka-Turkiye Relations in Turkiye’s Asia Anew Initiative” symposium held on 29th March 2022. Ambassador M.R. Hassen was invited to make the keynote address at the symposium themed “Sri Lanka-Turkiye Relations in Turkiye’s Asia Anew Initiative” organized by the Political Science Faculty of Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Ankara.

Ambassador M.R. Hassen elaborated the current diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Turkey, current projects between two countries and highlighted the importance of exploring potential opportunities to the benefit of two countries.

Attending through online, a young prominent academic and historian Dr. Zameer Careem made a detailed presentation on the historical relations between Sri Lanka and Turkey highlighting the significant events took place during Seljuk and Ottoman Empire period with Sri Lanka.

Prof. Dr. Hakkı Odabaş, Dean Political Science Faculty of Yıldırım Beyazıt University speaking on Sri Lanka praised the Ceylon tea for its pureness and unique taste. Further he added that the University will continue to engage with the Mission in the future to enlighten the students about the bilateral relations between Turkey and Sri Lanka.

The session continued with the Q & A session, the guests were served with pure Ceylon tea and had the opportunity to witness a glimpse of Sri Lanka photo exhibition organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka.

The Ambassador was initially received by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Arif Ankaralı and the academic staff headed by Prof. Dr. Hakkı Odabaş, Dean Political Science Faculty. Dr. Omair Anas gave a detailed briefing on the university and the faculties of the university.

The Conference was attended by 100 students from the Political Sciences Faculty, the academic staff of the Yıldırım Beyazıt University and the Embassy staff.
