Sri Lanka is a country enriched with natural beauty and catered for millions of foreign travelers before the pandemic. Following the guidelines and adhering to the United Nations World Tourism Organizations core theme during the pandemic “Stay home travel tomorrow” the island still has not opened its natural beauty to the foreign travelers. The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau using modern digital technology has initiated first ever Sri Lanka’s virtual safari on Sri Lankas national parks for interested travelers from home.

The virtual safari will focus on unique species living in Sri Lanka’s main four wildlife national parks namely, “Minneriya”, “Kaudulla”, “Udawalawe” and “Yala”. The program will be narrated by Dr. Prithviraj Fernando, lead environmental specialist at the South Asia Environment & Resource Unit in World Bank & Mr. Chithral Jayathilake, wildlife expert.

“Minneriya” national park - originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in Sri Lanka back in 1938. It is mainly home for 24 species mammals, 160 species of birds, 75 species of butterflies. Viewers will have opportunity for exciting sighting of glorious gentle giants “Elephants” in Minneriya.

“Yala” national park home for 44 varieties of mammals and 215 bird species and also one of the highest leopard densities in the world. 

“Kaudulla” national park - designated as a national park in 2002 and home for 24 species of mammals, 25 species of reptiles, 26 species of fish and 160 species of butterfly.

 “Udawalawa” national park declared as a Sri Lanka’s wildlife national park in 1972. It is home for Sri Lankan leopards & Sri Lankan Sloth bears.
