Sri Lanka Looks for New Avenues in Türkiye to Bolster its Tourism Industry

With a view to strengthening tourism cooperation between Sri Lanka and Türkiye, the official Sri Lankan delegation led by Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Türkiye, Niluka Kadurugamuwa recently met with the Vice President of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), Davut Günaydın and his team at the TÜRSAB Headquarters in Istanbul.

During the meeting, the Sri Lankan delegation highlighted Sri Lanka as a premium tourist destination in Asia for Turkish travelers, showcasing the island’s rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality, breathtaking landscapes, and world-class services offered at competitive prices. The discussions emphasized Sri Lanka’s unique ability to provide memorable and authentic travel experiences for visitors from Türkiye.

TÜRSAB officials apprised the Sri Lankan delegation of the growing interest among Turkish travelers in exploring new destinations beyond traditional European and African markets and expressed their confidence in Sri Lanka’s strong potential as an emerging and attractive destination for the Turkish tourism market.

As an outcome of the discussions, TÜRSAB agreed to facilitate an exclusive Sri Lanka destination promotion programme at its headquarters with the participation of Sri Lankan tourism stakeholders. They also undertook to support the promotion of Sri Lanka’s tourism documentaries through TÜRSAB’s official TV channel and their members’ promotional platforms.

The discussions further explored opportunities to organize tourism promotion campaigns across several regions in Türkiye including Gaziantep, İzmir, the Black Sea region, Antalya, and Mersin to enhance outreach and attract a wider range of Turkish travelers to Sri Lanka.

The meeting concluded on a positive note to further strengthening tourism cooperation between Sri Lanka and Türkiye.

The Sri Lanka delegation also included First Secretary (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ankara, Dilanga Hettiarachchi and Sri Lanka’s Honorary Consul in Istanbul Dr. Aydin Özü.
