Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to Türkiye, Niluka Kadurugamuwa, met today (2) with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hatice Çelik, Head of the Department of Asian Studies and Director of the ASEAN Centre for Applied Studies and Research at the Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBU), together with other academics of the Department. The Ambassador-designate was accompanied by Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ankara, Nilusha Dilmini.
The discussion focused on potential educational collaborations and initiatives to enhance Sri Lanka’s presence in Türkiye. Opportunities for academic and student exchanges as well as ways and means to secure resources to support these initiatives were also explored.
The meeting was facilitated by Dr. Zameer Careem, a Sri Lankan alumnus of ASBU under the YTB Türkiye Scholarship Programme, showcasing the success of Sri Lanka–Türkiye educational cooperation.
Founded in 2013, ASBU is Türkiye’s first and only state university dedicated to the field of social sciences.
This engagement marks another step toward building stronger academic and people-to-people partnerships between Sri Lanka and Türkiye.
